Hary.A is a nasty worm that spreads by pretending to be an electronic version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows—the book, not the movie—that is sent around through removable drives, spam emails, and various other means. Once you open the file—which comes under several names, including “HarryPotter-TheDeathlyHallows.doc”—and realize that it’s not actually the book, it’s already too late. The worm takes only a few seconds to infect your PC.
There is no single obvious symptom of infection by Hary.A, but you will notice your computer acting funny in lots of different ways. Programs will open, close, and minimize seemingly at random, new directories and files will appear, and your web browser will behave very strangely.
Perhaps we should take this as a lesson to download things only from legit sources. But we’re not here to tell you what to do, so let’s just go through the Hary.A removal instructions.
